VE Day 2025

8th May saw us mark a very special occasion - the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe.  We spent the morning honouring the courage, sacrifice and resilience of those who fought for freedom and peace.  Staff and residents observed the national two minutes silence reflecting on the bravery of those lost, a very moving and emotional moment.

As part of the remembrance, the home was decorated in red, white and blue, and we encouraged staff to dress in their finest 1940's inspired outfits, with a prize for the best dressed.

In the afternoon we bought everyone together and held a traditional afternoon tea party, enjoyed a sing song from the 1940's, and a VE Day inspired quiz, which became very competitive!  Many of our residents can recall the end of the war, and shared their stories and memories from that time.

The day was a perfect balance of remembrance and celebration, and many staff said that it had been an honour sharing the day with the residents.
