May 2021

Firstly, thank you all for your support during the past year or so, 2020 and 2021 have certainly been full of challenges but I’m happy to report that the home has remained COVID free.  All the residents and staff have now received their second dose of the vaccine, so fingers crossed we can all work towards returning to a sense of normality.

COVID19 & Visiting Update

On the 17th May, new guidelines were issued to Care Homes with regards to visiting.  Each resident can now have 5 nominated visitors, although they can only see 2 visitors at one time.  Unfortunately, guidance is that children are not allowed at present.

The homes procedure for visiting remains the same, each visitor will be tested 30 minutes before the pre-booked time, and the duration will still be 30 minutes.  These visits will also remain in the one area of the home and full PPE will need to be worn.  We understand that this is still not ideal, but it is an improvement and hopefully we are moving in the right direction.

Residents, who have left the building for appointments etc, are no longer required to isolate for 10 days on their return, so if you wish to take your family member for a drive / walk, feel free to contact us so that we can arrange this with you.

Birthday Celebrations

We were so lucky recently to celebrate a special lady’s 101th birthday.  The staff and residents surprised her with small tea party in the afternoon, with banners, balloons, a sing song and of course, cake!

Early June will also see a gentleman celebrate his 100th birthday.  Arrangements have been made for a telegram to be delivered from the Queen, and I know the staff will be marking his birthday with a cake or two!  I’m sure you’d like to join me in wishing him a very happy birthday.

Gifts, Presents for Loved Ones

Please note that we are still required to quarantine all gifts for residents for 24 hours before they can be given and opened. This is in line with Government recommendations to minimise the risk of COVID19.

If you wish to be there whilst your family member opens a gift, please arrange for the gift to arrive at least a day before your planned visit.

Resident Questionnaires

Thank you to the many of you that responded to our recent Resident Questionnaires.  Individual responses will be coming out to you shortly.  I’m please to say that there were many positive comments, all of which have been passed on to the staff.

As always, if there is anything that you would like to discuss regarding your family member and their care, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Welcome

I would like to inform you of some changes to our staffing team.  Ashley has sadly left us, after deciding to take a position closer to home.

Tuesday has been promoted from Team Leader to Deputy Manager.  Tuesday has many years of experience working at senior level within Health & Social Care, and is a great asset to our team.

Sophie, Maddy and Sue have joined our care team, and are settling in well to their role.

I’m sure you would like to join me in welcoming them all to our Malthouse family.

Best Wishes

Emma Gilbert
